Green Archers rout Agila MSA in UFL

Green Archers United FC routed Agila MSA FC, 5-0, for their third win in the first round of the United Football League (UFL) at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium on Wednesday.

After losing to top tier club Kaya FC last Sunday, the Green Archers returned to the winners’ column.

The Archers snapped a two-game losing skid following consecutive defeats against Loyola Meralco Sparks FC, 4-0, and Kaya FC, 1-5, while Agila absorbed back-to-back losses in their last two games.

With the win, the Archers improved their record to three wins; a draw and two losses to take the seventh spot of the standings while Agila is No.9 with a win, a draw and four losses.

Agila was soundly beaten 11-0 by the Meralco Sparks on June 15.

National University standout Nico Macapal opened the game with a goal in the 16th minute after outsmarting the Agila MSA’s first choice shot-stopper Kenn James.

The Agilas were on the run in search for a reply, with Konan Koffi and Julian Roxas leading their charge but they were unable to score.

The Green Archers shredded the defense of their adversaries toward the end of the first half and was rewarded with a rebound goal by Paul Salahit off a corner in stoppage to give his side a 2-0 advantage at halftime.

As play resumed, Agila went on the offensive but still failed to penetrate the Green Archers’ back line.

Another goal in the 74th minute was added to the Green Archers courtesy of Jimuel Ariolo that extended their lead to 3-0.

Meanwhile, former Azkal Chieffy Caligdong, who came in as a substitute for Gelo Diamante in the 68th minute, also scored a goal in the 77th minute.

The coup de grâce was delivered by Alvin Sarmiento off a shot from deep inside the box in the 88th minute.

In the other match, the unbeaten Global FC won over Pasargad FC via default because of lack of available players of the latter.

Global is the only undefeated team this season occupying the provisional No.1 spot with six wins for a total of 18 points while Pasargad is No.11 with a draw and five defeats.
