Green groups EcoWaste Coalition, BAN Toxics, and Greenpeace celeb-rated the ruling Monday by a Phi-lippine government interagency committee to re-export illegal garbage shipments back to Canada but only as a partial victory as about half of the trash originally sent to the Philippines is covered by the ruling.
On Monday a committee composed of the Bureau of Customs, and the Departments of Environment and Natural Resources, Foreign Affairs, and Justice, agreed to enforce the ruling by Manila magistrate Tita Bughao-Alisuag ordering the re-export of 50 forty-foot containers of garbage back to Canada at the expense of Chronic Plastics, Inc., the importer.
