ILOILO CITY: A groundwater level study is currently being conducted in six towns of Iloilo province by the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) in response to report that Iloilo is one of the identified critical areas in the country in terms of groundwater extraction that needs immediate rehabilitation. The study is in coordination with CEST Inc., a company that offers engineering consulting services to determine the groundwater potability and safety. Members of NWRB and CEST Inc. recently met Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Regional Director Adeluisa Siapno to present their intentions and study in cooperation with the local government units concerned. Siapno stressed that before any study be conducted in the municipalities of Iloilo, there must be a memorandum of agreement (MOA) between the DENR, NWRB and the LGUs. The team from Manila NWRB are engineers Emmie Ruales and Susan Abaño and statistician Lilian Gacusan. From CEST Inc. are engineers Rolando Grospe and Kevin Bermido.
