CAGAYAN: A religious-based environment group here has expressed dismay over the continued operation of illegal black sand mining operations despite the ongoing government crackdown against operators. The Federation of Environmental Advocates of Cagayan (FEAC) in collaboration with all anti-mining advocates in the province said in a statement that “black sand quarrying continues on a guerilla operation along the province’s northern coastlines.” “[The operation] of illegal black sand mining goes unabated in several coastal villages in the towns of Aparri, Gonzaga and Buguey despite the ongoing government drive against operators,” said Dr. Ronald Guzman, FEAC convenor.
