Groups rally vs emergency powers


Various groups on Friday staged separate rallies against the granting of emergency powers to President Benigno Aquino 3rd and reiterateds their call for the junking of Electric Power Industry Reform Act (Epira) of 2011. More than a hundred members of Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino (BMBP) trooped to Mediola Bridge in Manila in the morning to jump start Friday’s nationwide action. “The emergency powers granted by Congressional panel on Energy will not even make a dent on the power crisis ordinary folks like us, wage earners, are painfully bearing for the past 13 years,” said Leody de Guzman, chairman of BMBP. Kathryn Leuch of Power of People Network said President Aquino on Monday reiterated his call for emergency powers during the launching of SM North’s solar rooftop project.
