Last year’s runner-up University of Santo Tomas (UST) guns for its fourth win when it battles slumping University of the Philippines (UP) in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 76 men’s basketball tournament today at the Araneta Coliseum.
UST takes on UP at 2 p.m. while Adamson University battles De La Salle University at 4 p.m.
UST and Adamson are sharing the second spot with 3-2 each behind pacesetting Far Eastern University (6-0). National University (3-3) and University of the East (3-3) are also tied for fourth followed by La Salle (2-3), defending champion Ateneo de Manila University (2-4) and UP (0-5).
Cameroonian Karim Abdul, Kevin Ferrer and Aljon Mariano are expected to carry the Growling Tigers as skipper Jeric Teng is still recovering from shoulder injury. Clark Bautista, Kim Lo and Eduardo Daquioag must also provide firepower to bounce back from their 67-77 loss against FEU in the previous game.
The UP Fighting Maroons, on the other hand, are raring to notch their first win this season. UP absorbed a 64-72 defeat from Ateneo last Sunday.
Samuel Marata will be the main man of UP. He scored 22 points, three rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block against the Blue Eagles. Besides Marata, UP is also pinning its hope on Jason Ligad, Chris Ball, Raul Soyud and rookie Kyles Lao.
Meanwhile, Adamson has Jericho Cruz, Roider Cabrera, Rodney Brondial and Cameroonian Ingrid Sewa going up against La Salle’s Jeron Teng, Almond Vosotros, Arnold Van Opstal, Thomas Torres, Norbert Torres and LA Revilla.
