Guard killed while stuck in traffic

A personal security guard was killed after he was shot by two motorcycle-riding men in heavy traffic in Pasay City (Metro Manila) on Wednesday. Vicente Abonalla, 36, was gunned down while driving the family of businessman Roberto Catapang Jr. on their way to Glorietta, Makati City (Metro Manila). In a police report submitted to Senior Supt. Doria, officer-in charge of Pasay City police, the passengers on board a Nissan Safari (POB 283) were stuck in a traffic build-up at the West Service Road near Nichols Interchange when the gunmen attacked them. The assailants wearing full-face crash helmets pulled over at the side door of the front passenger seat then fired three successive shots at the victim. Catapang brought his staff to the Parañaque Doctor’s Hospital where he died. He believed it was a case of mistaken identity, saying he was actually the target because of his business dealings.
