SAN Juan City Mayor Guia Gomez won a fresh term in office after defeating her rival, Vice Mayor Francis Zamora, by a slim margin.
She was proclaimed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday.
Gomez of the Partido Magdiwang got 28,828 votes while Zamora of the Nacionalista Party garnered 27,604 votes.
In the vice mayoral race, Janella Ejercito-Estrada of the Partido ng Masang Pilipino, daughter of Sen. Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada, was leading by more than 9,000 votes against Rolando Bernardo.
The post for San Juan’s lone district representative, on the other hand, went to Ronaldo “Ronny” Zamora who got 31,172 votes. He defeated Jana Ejercito, cousin of Senators Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito and Jinggoy.
Gomez, a partner of former president Joseph Estrada and mother of Senator JV, thanked her supporters for giving her a fresh mandate. She is now on her third and final term as city mayor.
“Ngayong tapos na ang halalan at minsan pa tayong nabigyan ng bagong tiwala sa ating ikahuling termino, dalangin ko ang kapayapaan sa puso ng bawat San Juaneño. [Now that election is over and I have been entrusted with another term, I pray for peace in the hearts of every San Juan resident.]
Nawa’y kasamang natapos ng halalan ang pagkakahati-hati ng ating lungsod ng dahil sa pulitika,[I hope that the end of election also takes us beyond partisanship]” the mayor said in a statement.
“Sikapin nating maghilom ang sugat na dulot nito tungo sa patuloy na pagsisikap na mapaunlad ang pamumuhay ng ating pamayanan,[Let us strive to heal the wounds of division and work to better the lives of our constituents]” she added.
