THE Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said the number of persons arrested for violation of the gun ban is nearing the 3,000 mark. Figure from the National Election and Monitoring Action Center (NEMAC) showed 2,916 since the start of the nationwide election gun ban on January 10. PNP Spokesman, Chief Supt. Wilben Mayor said most of those arrested were civilians with 2,803 followed by 35 security guards. Also seized a total of 2, 268 assorted firearms, compose of 728 pistols; 683 revolvers; 119 shot guns; 115 rifles. The PNP Spokesman said that this including around 125 class-A weapons; four class-B weapons and 494 improvised firearms such as homemade shotguns, paltiks and others, while 1,986 firearms were surrendered or deposited to the police for safekeeping.
