Gunman kills policeman, wounds pupil in Batangas


A police officer was killed and a eight-year old boy was hit by a stray bullet in a shooting incident early Monday in a remote village in Batangas, Camp Crame reports said.

Reports at the Philippine National Police operations center in Camp Crame identified the fatality as Police Officer 2 Dominic Bituin, assigned at the Batangas Provincial Police Office.

Hit by a stray bullet was John Rio Catibog Bernadas, 8, a pupil of the said school, reports said.

The shooting occurred at around 6:40 a.m. inside the Padre Garcia Central School compound at Poblacion, Padre Garcia, Batangas.

The unidentified gunman, wearing gray jacket, approached and shot Bituin on the head with a 9mm pistol, then fled on a motorcycle toward Lipa City, reports said.

The pupil was hit on his chest. Both Bituin and Bernadas were rushed to Rosales Hospital in Padre Garcia. The policeman was declared dead on arrival by attending doctors.
