Gunman shot dead a jobless man in Agusan del Sur


An unidentified gunman shot a jobless middle-aged man in a far-flung village in Agusan del Sur province late Thursday, police reports said on Saturday.

Reports reaching the Philippine National Police (PNP) National Operations Center in Camp Crame said that a certain Ronald Lawangon Escalante alias “Totong”, 28, was shot for unknown reason by an unidentified gunman near his home in Purok 1C, Barangay 2, San Francisco town in Agusan del Sur.

Based on initial investigation, police said that the victim was sitting in front of Grean Cycle Center at about 11:45 p.m. and was reportedly waiting for someone when the suspect appeared from nowhere and shot him several times, hitting him on different parts of the body.

Reports said that Escalante died on the spot because of the multiple gunshot wounds that he sustained. Police, meanwhile, are still conducting further investigation to identify the suspect and to determine the motive of the killing. ANTHONY VARGAS
