Gunrunners slain in Cagayan shootout


TUGUEGARAO CITY: Four members of a suspected gunrunning syndicate reportedly operating in Cagayan province died in a shootout in Centro Northwest in Solana, Cagayan. Sr. Supt. Gregorio Lim, provincial police director, identified the fatalities in that incident as Freddie Pagulayan, resident of Northwest; Edwin Dumlao, of Barangay Lingu, both of Solana town; Ronie Apacible of Baculud, Amulung town; and a John Doe.

Police Regional Director Rodrigo de Gracia said that the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) Quick Response Force was conducting on Wednesday a casing-surveillance on a suspected gun dealer-supplier in Centro Northwest, Solana when the incident ensued.

Police said the suspects noticed the PNP-SAF 85th Special Action Company of the Rapid Deployment Battalion intelligence operation in the area at that time; the suspects immediately fired at them triggering a shootout.

Recovered from the suspects were four rifles, two M-16 Garand and three pistols. There were no casualties on the part of the PNP.
