• Gymnast adds 5 gold to NCR medal haul


    National Capital Region’s (NCR) Isabella Louise Sta. Maria joined the list of multi-gold winners as she copped five golds in girls’ secondary artistic gymnastics event of the 2016 Palarong Pambansa being held in Legazpi City, Albay.

    Sta. Maria bagged four individual gold medals – floor exercise, balance beam, vault and individual all-around – then helped the NCR squad in winning the team event gold medal with Shantel Gruenberg and Rukmini Dasi Rosemary Guevara.

    In girls’ elementary artistic gymnastics, another NCR bet Jasmine Jane Velaquez shared the spotlight by pocketing three individual gold medals in balance beam, vault and single bar before conniving with Samantha Noelle Dominguez and Ancilla Lucia Mari Manzano in claiming the team event top honors.

    In arnis, Shakira Elaine Mae Bruas of Northern Mindanao won four gold medals in the girls’ elementary division.

    Bruas topped the anyo individual double weapon event by scoring 67 points and had 67.75/68.00 points in Espada Y Daga for her second gold medal.

    She was also part of the Northern Mindanao team that won gold medals in anyo team event (double identical weapon) and Espada Y Daga team event.

    Soccsksargen Region’s James Micahel Exclamador led the gold medalists in the boys’ secondary archery event as he earned mints in the 60m and 50m events.

    The other gold winners were Nicholas Saval of Caraga Region (70m), Justine Ronato of Soccsk­sargen Region (30m) and Rogelio Miguel Tremedal of Central Visayas Region (Single FITA round).

    Winning gold medals in the girls’ secondary archery were Nicole Marie Tagle of Negros Island Region (40m and single FITA round), Samantha Manaloto of NCR (60m) and Clarisse Castro of Centra Luzon Region (30m).

    NCR is pulling away in the medal tally with 42 golds, 24 silvers and 23 bronzes while Western Visayas Region takes the second spot with 23 golds, 20 silvers and 17 bronzes. Southern Tagalog Region dropped to third with 23-19-21.
