GUESS WHO? Popular actor and actress caught with drugs
Sunshine Dizon took a very quick trip to the US last week to receive her the Gawad Amerika Award as Outstanding Actress for the highly successful GMA Afternoon Prime series “Ika-6 Na Utos.” It is her second time to receive the award, with the first in 2006 for her performance in the original “Encantadia.”
Sitting down with Showbuzz before she left, Sunshine recalled hearing about the award anew, “I was so surprised! I thought malabo na akong manalo because I was already an awardee, but they said the choice always depends on the performance. I feel so honored to receive this again because it comes from fellow Filipinos in the United States.”
Although Sunshine was scheduled to stay in the States for only four days, she was still looking forward to the short getaway.
“I’m not just excited about receiving the award because I’m also looking forward to having some bonding time with my dad. He’s based in California where I’m going, and I’ll be staying at his house while I’m there.”
The reason why Sunshine can’t stay long in the US is because she’s scheduled to go to Japan with a couple of friends. The trip had been scheduled long before she won the Gawad Amerika.
“Naka-block na talaga ‘yang dates na ‘yan. We already have our tickets so we have to use them. We’ve also taped advance episodes for Ika-6 Na Utos so everything’s been arranged.”
When Sunshine gets back, she will buckle down to work immediately since she is just as excited to know what will happen in the story like the viewers.
“The entire cast is always excited every time a new script arrives. Minsan nagugulat din kami sa mga twists and turns ng story. “
With the continued success of Ika-6 Na Utos and Sunshine’s awards for her performance, the press have started calling her the “Daytime Drama Queen.”
Reacting to the news, she said, “Sa akin kasi, I am very flattered but it’s also kind of scary because I really have to work hard to prove to everyone that I’m worthy of the title.”
Ika-6 Na Utos is now on its second year and the show just keeps getting better and better. The latest Showbuzz heard is that it will continue to air what with many possibilities available for the storyline.
“When we’re on the set and we talk about the story, ang daming nabubuong suggestions. Pag dumarating ang bagong script, tanungan kami kung ano ang mga new developments in the story.”
And whenever people see Sunshine, they always ask her what’s going to happen to her character Emma—an indication how the show is affecting the viewers. With ratings rising, there’s no doubt that Ika-6 na Utos is now a daily habit on Philippine TV.
As he starts a new series for GMA, Ruru Madrid has also taken on a new look. The night before his first taping day, he cut his hair short.
“I want to look fresh. In my last two projects, Encantadia and “Alyas Robinhood,” I had long hair. Now, in the new series, I feel the viewers should see a new me. I’m happy naman with my new hair although naninibago ako every time I see myself in the mirror,” said the actor.
The new series signals the return of Ruru’s team-up with Gabbi Garcia. For a while, the pair began working on projects with other actors but the clamor for their tandem was too strong for the network to ignore.
“There’s this different kind of excitement to work with Gabbi again, and I’m very happy for the GabRu fans. They’ve been asking for a project with us together even after they’ve supported our separate outings so this new prime time series is for them.”
Besides Gabbi, Janine Gutierrez is also starring in the new soap, and Ruru is so flattered to have two beautiful leading ladies for his character.
“As they say pag sa babae, ‘Ang haba ng buhok mo.’ That’s how I feel. Napaka swerte ko naman, may Gabbi na, may Janine pa. But seriously, I feel very fortunate that I am working with two of the loveliest and most talented women in local showbiz.”
The new series also features a very cute and loveable dog, a Labrador named Serena. Ruru, however, got cold feet when he learned he’d be working with a dog.
“I have a phobia with dogs. Nakagat kasi ako ng aso noon and from then on, I’ve been very scared of dogs. But the first time I met Serena, I fell in love with her. She’s so friendly, and so loveable. She’s really a darling.”
There’s no doubt the winners of the Mr. and Miss Teen Bulacan will soon be acting for the cameras. Andrew Cayetano of San Jose Del Monte Bulacan and Aerika Gaji of Calumpit both have the potential of making it big in showbiz.
Young and good looking—Andrew just turned 19 and Aerika 18—a talent manager has already approached them to explore TV possibilities and a guest stints in a long-running weekly drama anthology is now in the works.
“I feel so blessed with the opportunities that opened when I won because I joined the pageant hoping it will be my stepping stone to a career in showbiz,” admitted Andrew. “I really want to make it in showbiz because this is one way for me to help my family. I want to give them a comfortable life. I also want to help my parents send my siblings to school. Hindi naman po kami mayaman so a career in showbiz will be a very big help.”
Aerika for her part has joined many beauty contests before and now wants to give acting a try.
“I want to be an actress but I also want to continue with my studies. Pwede naman silang pagsabayin. I believe iba pa rin pag nakatapos ka sa pag-aaral.”
SHORTS… After giving birth, Pauleen Luna made her first public appearance at the premiere night of “Trip Ubusan: Lolas Versus Zombies.” She attended the event with husband Vic Sotto who is one of the producers of the movie. Pauleen looks very happy and content. By the way, the movie which is led by Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola and Paolo Ballesteros, got an A rating from the Film Development Board. Congratulations!
GUESS WHO? Showbuzz hopes that it’s not true that a popular actor and actress were caught by authorities together with drugs in their possession. No clues will be given yet as this is such a touchy issue. The camps of both stars are all mum about what happened that fateful night.
