Acclaimed TV and movie director Louie Ignacio has started work on his film titled Area with Ai Ai delas Alas as lead actress. Produced by BG Films International, this is Ignacio’s first full length film project with the comedy actress as his lead star.

In the movie, Ai Ai plays an aging prostitute and Ignacio says her lead star is making an effort to immerse herself in the role. “She’s in the process of losing weight for the role. She has to look haggard for it. She is excited to do it and have shot one day for the film in Pampanga. She just wants to finish her film with Regal then she plunges back to work for this one.”

Ignacio hopes the film will be ready for submission to the Metro Manila Film Festival. Ai Ai is likewise excited to return to the MMFF where she had several box-office entries.

“I am likewise excited to compete in the festival since it is giving a chance to indie films. Who knows, we might get lucky and our film gets accepted as an entry. This year’s edition of the festival gives equal footing to indie films and mainstream movies since the quality of the finished product is the basis for an entry to be accepted. So we are hoping for the best.”

Another dream for Ignacio is that Area will be able to compete in film festivals just like his previous namely Asintado (for which lead Aiko Melendez won two international acting awards) and Laut (where Barbie Forteza also won an acting trophy).

“I hope that Area will get the chance to be accepted in film festivals abroad and hope that it gives Ai Ai the opportunity to be introduced to the international film festival circuit. She is known in the Philippines as a bankable actress but I want her to known in festivals abroad. And hopefully win an award as well.”

“I want to explore her character in Area even more. I am confident she can give a good performance. I want the audience to see a different Ai Ai, tackling a role that they have never seen before, someone who doesn’t act but lives and breathes the role. I want the audience to see a different side of her,” explains Direk Louie.

We read in a social media post stating that the life story of Davao City Mayor and soon-to-be-declared president Rodrigo Duterte will be filmed and it is Robin Padilla who is being eyed to play the role of Digong.

When we interviewed Robin last Sunday at Resorts World Hotel, we asked him if he is aware of such project.

“Hangga’t hindi si Mayor Digong [Rodrigo Duterte] ang nagsasabi, mahirap asahan iyan. Lahat iyan ay bolahan lang. Si Mayor ang huling magsasabi kung tuloy iyan at sa mga oras na ito, walang sinasabing ganyan sa akin si Mayor,” said the action star.

By the way, Robin and his manager Betchay Vidanes have reconciled after he decided to leave the company last week due to conflict of interest.

When Robin became a victim of bashing by his fellow stars, he wanted to file charges against them and this was where conflict with his manager ensued.

“Feeling ko naman kasama ako sa unang-unang nagkumbinsi ni Mayor Digong na tumakbo for president tapos bigla na lang akong maba-bash? Kaisa nila ako sa paniniwala kay Dutrerte pero bigla na akong na-bash? I was really upset,” he shared.

For her part, Betchay advised Robin that should not file charges against his colleagues. That comes as part of the job. But since the said stars already apologized after a few days so Robin decided to drop the idea of filing cases against his colleagues. But he is dead set in bringing to court several netizens who maligned him about his past jail stint.
