MARK Hartmann’s four goals powered the Philippine Azkals’ 5-0 conquest of Papua New Guinea on Sunday in a friendly game at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila.
Hartman posted goals in the two-minute, 10th minute, 19th and 45+2 minute marks. The other goal came from Phil Younghusband at 41st minute mark.
Azkals coach Thomas Dooley switched players in second half and tried new tricks against the Papua New Guinea team ranked 199th by the FIFA.
Although the Azkals initially struggled with their offense, Papua New Guinea still failed to score because of the Filipinos’ great defense.
Co-skipper Chieffy Caligdong who was present in the line-up did not play despite the chant of the fans.
The exhibition match is part of the Azkals’ preparation for the Asean Suzuki Cup next month. The Azkals, now 134th in FIFA rankings will play against Nepal on October 31 in Doha, Qatar.
