1 p.m. – Cignal vs Navy
Cignal TV, Inc. continued to churn out big games, grounding Air Force, 25-16, 25-19, 21-25, 25-16, on Saturday to seize the solo lead in the Spikers’ Turf Season Two-Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan City.
Ateneo star Ysay Marasigan and Alexis Faytaren unloaded 15 hits apiece, including 13 and 11 on kills, respectively, while Lorenzo Capate Jr. and La Salle’s Raymark Woo chipped in 11 points apiece to help rally the HD Spikers from a third set setback to complete a four-set triumph, their second straight.
Cignal coach Michael Carino credited their early success to their preparation.
“We really prepared hard for this tournament and our hard work is starting to pay off,” said Carino,
Vince Mangulabnan also played a key role for Cignal as he upstaged rival Jessie Lopez with 28 excellent sets against the latter’s 15.
The HD Spikers also pounced on the Jet Spikers’ erratic game that saw the latter committing 30 miscues against the former’s 19.
The win was a big follow-up to Cignal’s tough 25-18, 23-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-10 victory over newcomer Bounty Fresh last Monday, putting the HD Spikers on track of their semifinal bid in the league organized by Sports Vision.
Air Force, which also lost to Cignal in the Reinforced Conference finals last year, took its first loss after opening its campaign with an emphatic 25-21, 25-18, 25-21 triumph over Sta. Elena on Wednesday.
