As multi-hyphenate Heart Evangelista renewed her contract with GMA Network at the beginning of the week, she was unable to avoid questions as to when she and husband Senator Chiz Escudero plan to have a baby.
Since marrying the 46-year-old legislator in February 2015, Evangelista, 35, has gone full throttle in establishing a second career as Love Marie Ongpauco, the painter, with three sold-out one-woman shows to date, and a number of highly successful artistic collaborations in fashion and makeup. Through all these, she also managed to keep up her showbiz career as “Philippine TV’s Sweetheart” and completed two prime time series in the past year and a half via Beautiful Strangers, co-starring Lovi Poe), and the recently concluded Juan Happy Love Story, with Dennis Trillo.
“We want to have a baby,” she said during an intimate roundtable with Entertainment editors on September 19, “but Chiz knows I’m a workaholic!” the ever candid celebrity laughed.
“We’re moving into a new home by December—a house I’ve been building as my dream house—and there is a special room there that will be for our baby,” she confirmed.
That morning, however, according to Evangelista, she asked her husband as it hit her, “What if GMA gives me a new soap after I renew my contract today?”
Thankfully, the “very mature” senator apparently took the possibility calmly, and simply said, “Then you work on your soap.”
“He’s just so uncomplicated that way, but I also know he’s eager to start our family, so I’ll just have to say at this point, whichever comes first. Maybe in January or February, a baby or a soap, and we’ll take it from there.”
Evangelista went on to say that much as she seems more focused on her painting these days, she has come to value her showbiz career all the more for a couple of reasons.
The first is based on practicality since working on a prime time series for a full television season allows her to devote her time to painting for the rest of the year financially.
Secondly, acting gives her “a break from being me.”
“On TV, I can be whoever I want to be so going to the set pretty much feels like a day off for me,” she explained. “I love to paint and I am going to explore even the business side of it all the more in the coming year, but I really can’t imagine myself not doing a telenovela at least once a year.”
Gathering her thoughts she said of her diverse commitments, “I just love everything that I’m doing, and one project inspires me to do the next—whether it’s a new show for GMA or another exhibit. And really, even if it seems I hardly get any rest, I don’t feel tired at all. Like I said, I’m just super inspired.”
Busyness indeed becomes Heart Evangelista, as she grows more beautiful with each new surprise she pulls from her talented sleeve. But what more if her next baby is neither for TV nor the canvas? No pressure, but what a sight that would probably be.
