BERNABE “Tey” Teodoro fired 32 points including the go-ahead basket in the last 3.2 seconds to power the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers’ 90-87 win over the Mapua Institute of Technology Cardinals on Tuesday in the 91st National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournament elimination round at The Arena in San Juan City.
The victory moved the Mandaluyong-based Bombers, now with a 5-3 win-loss record, to the solo fourth spot behind leader Letran (7-1), San Beda College Red Lions (6-1) and University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Altas (6-2).
“He is a bigtime player now,” said Jose Rizal coach Vergel Meneses of Teodoro who finished with 32 points, one rebound and three steals. He notched 18 points in the fourth period alone that saved the day for Meneses’ squad.
In the other game, the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Altas thumped the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, 68-55, to notch their sixth win against two losses. The Altas remain no.3 in the standings.
Prince Eze led the Altas with 17 points, eight rebounds and two block shots. With the loss, the EAC Generals are locked in a three-way tie from seventh to ninth positions with the College of Saint Benilde Blazers and the San Sebastian College Stags all bearing similar 2-6 cards.
