The Jose Rizal University (JRU) Heavy Bombers bombarded the Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) Generals, 73-58, to post their fourth win in the FilOil Flying V pre-season collegiate basketball tournament at the San Juan Arena on Friday.
After two quarters of play, the Heavy Bombers swiftly stole the lead, banking on an impressive 10 points and 6 rebounds first half performance by Abdel Poutouochi.
JRU continued its dominance on the hard-court in the third quarter, pouncing on EAC’s permeable defense to improve their lead to 56-36.
The hapless EAC Generals fell short in posting a surge in the final ten minutes of play, despite a scoring outburst from their side, as JRU foiled their efforts to bring home the win.
On the other hand, National Collegiate Athletic Association team Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT) Cardinals thwarted the Southwestern University (SWU) Cobras, 81-73.
The two ball clubs engaged in a tight first quarter but an SWU scoring slump in the second proved to be the silver lining in MIT’s plight to clinch their first win.
Josan Nimes, Carlos Isit and Bien Dela Rosa all scored in double digits in their offensive showcase against the Cebu-based cagers.
