The Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers overpowered the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJR) Jaguars, 75-58, to post their third straight win in the FilOil Flying V collegiate pre-season basketball tournament at the San Juan Arena on Wednesday.
The Cebu-based cagers looked promising on the offensive end as they led the Heavy Bombers after the first quarter, 20-17.
The Jaguars’ offense continued to flourish on the court for the second quarter but the JRU stalwarts edged them by a point, 33-32, at halftime.
However, the men of coach Vergel Meneses took the floor in the second half as they subdue the hapless wards of USJR and gave them their second loss.
Paolo Pontejos and Chris Dela Paz carried the scoring led the Heavy Bombers with 13 and 21 markers, respectively.
Meanwhile, the Centro Escolar University Scorpions notched their pre-season win at the expense of the Lyceum of the Philippines University Pirates, 64-49.
