Heavy rains submerge Zamboanga villages, trigger landslide


ZAMBOANGA CITY – Heavy rains flooded at least four villages in Zamboanga del Sur and triggered a landslide in Zamboanga City, police said.

Police said the flash flood affected the villages of Magsaysay, Katipunan, Switch and Esperanza, all in Ramon Magsaysay town.
Police and civilian rescuers evacuated the villagers to safer areas. There was no report of casualties.
Flooding also occurred in the villages of Baliguian town in Zamboanga del Norte. Several houses were damaged or destroyed.
A landslide was reported in the village of Salaan in Zamboanga City and disrupted traffic in the area. The landslide also blocked roads.
There was no report of casualties from the landslide.
