Tropical storm Helen entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and will most likely affect Batanes, the weather bureau said Saturday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Helen entered the country at 4 p.m. yesterday, packing maximum sustained winds of 110 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 140 kph.
The storm was last located 1,390 kilometers east northeast of Casiguran, Aurora.
It is forecast to move west northwest at 25 kph.
Pagasa said Helen is likely to gain strength.
It is expected to leave on Tuesday afternoon and is forecast to make landfall in Taiwan.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms.
Moderate to strong winds from northeast to northwest is expected over northern and Central Luzon.
