The Habagat last week. which again brought floods and suffering to many victims in affected areas, were less felt this time as the government and the local government units were already well-prepared and give early warnings to the people. Yet, 500,000 families were still affected. Even then, this is lower as compared to past devastating typhoons that visited our country in recent years, and the Habagat of last year.

Adding to this well- preparedness is the concern given by our Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police which are always on standby when these natural calamities strike. In Cavite where I live we saw how soldiers helped people living in coastal areas to evacuate to safer grounds, given food medicines, relief goods and even free medical attention by doctors who live in the nearby areas, and even volunteers ones from the metropolis.
