Hero dog Kabang returned home early Saturday after several months of medical treatment in the United States.

Kabang, who suffered extensive injuries on her nose and upper jaw after saving two children from a speeding motorcycle in December 2011, was greeted by the media and a throng of well-wishers when she arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport at 3 a.m.

On Monday, the dog was released from the University of California’s Davis Veterinary Hospital, where she had undergone surgery and a series of tests and vaccinations. Aside from losing her snout and upper jaw, Kabang was also discovered to be suffering from heartworms and a cancerous tumor. Netizens and pet lovers worldwide donated for her surgery.

Accompanied by her veterinarian Dr. Anton Mari H. Lim, Kabang was brought to the Animal House Veterinary Clinic in Makati City.

Kabang will be reunited with her owners in Zamboanga on Sunday.

However, Lim said Kabang’s owner, Rudy Bunggal, has agreed to “share” his dog with him if it will be for the good of his pet.

Lim said Kabang can stay in his home in Zamboanga and Rudy can visit him since he and Rudy are neighbors. If Kabang stays with his owner, Lim can also visit the dog to check on his condition.
