It was a night of pure musical talent as the annual Billboard Music Awards recognized anew the best in the industry. The T-Mobile Arena saw performances from the likes of Britney Spears, Pink, Gwen Stefani, Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber.
The most talked about highlight of the night went, however, to Celine Dion who appeared on stage for the first time since her husband’s death in January. She sang Queen’s “The Show Must Go On,” and was tearfully presented by no less than her son with Billboard’s Icon Award.
Madonna also became a trending topic, but for the wrong reasons—fans were disappointed with her tribute to Prince. She sang “Nothing Compares 2 U” followed by “Purple Rain” but critics felt it was too distant from the late artist himself.
British singer Adele might have won the night’s most coveted “Top Artist” award but Canada’s The Weeknd came home as the biggest winner, taking home 8 awards out of his 19 nominations.
