• HK raises minimum wage of domestic helpers

FILIPINO domestic helpers in Hong Kong will get a slightly higher pay as the minimum wage for foreign domestic helpers (FDH) was raised to HK$4,110, the Philippine Consulate General there said on Wednesday.

In a statement, Philippine Consul General Noel Eusebio Servigon said the HK government increased the minimum allowable wage (MAW) by 2.5 percent from HK$4,010 to HK$4,110.

Employers are also required to provide the FDH free food or a food allowance, which was increased by HKD44 a month or from not less than HK$920 to not less
    than HK$964.

“The new levels of the MAW and the food allowance will apply to all contracts signed on or after October 1, 2014,” Servigon said.

There are 284,901 foreign domestic helpers in Hong Kong, 48 percent or 136,752 of household workers are Filipinos; 49.4 percent or 140,741 are Indonesians and 1.3 percent or 3,704 are from Thailand.
