• HK, Shanghai flat by break despite upbeat China data

HONG KONG: Hong Kong and Shanghai stocks remained flat by the break on Wednesday, even after official data showed Chinese manufacturing expanded in May — a plus for the world’s second-largest economy.

The Hang Seng Index was almost unchanged, dipping 4.8 points to 20,810.29.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index also barely moved, adding 2.16 points to 2,918.78 while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China’s second exchange, rose 0.94 percent, or 17.61 points, to 1,889.97. AFP
