Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) achieved remarkable fuel efficiency results for its vehicles in an internal fuel economy run observed by an Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP) representative with the highest figure at 33.88 kilometers per liter recorded by the Brio Amaze.
Eight Honda vehicles were put to a fuel efficiency test in both highway and city courses using normal driving style with running air conditioning system. Each vehicle was assigned a driver and navigator.
The City, Brio, Brio Amaze, Mobilio, Jazz, HR-V, CR-V and Odyssey were driven over 166 kilometers in highway conditions and 55 kilometers in city traffic.
To ensure that realistic results are achieved, stringent standards were applied in relation to gas-up, tire pressure and air condition settings. All settings were sealed prior to vehicle dispatch from starting point. Furthermore, Francisco Reyes from the AAP strictly monitored the whole process.
For the highway driving leg, participants tackled the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) on the way to Urdaneta, Pangasinan from the Petron Marilao station in Bulacan. Meanwhile, the city driving portion took place at the congested roads of Edsa, Roxas Boulevard, Gil Puyat Avenue, Kalayaan and C5.
As a result of this activity, the most fuel efficient vehicles in the fleet for both highway and city legs were the Brio Amaze 1.3 E MT (manual transmission), Brio 1.3 V Navi AT (automatic transmission), and City 1.5 E CVT (continuously variable transmission) for passenger cars and the CR-V 2.0 S AT and Mobilio 1.5 V CVT for commercial vehicles.
The four-cylinder, 1.3-liter i-VTEC engine mated with five-speed AT and five-speed MT proved to be an efficient combination for the Brio and Brio Amaze to achieve remarkable fuel economy. The Brio Amaze 1.3 E MT model recorded 33.88 kpl for highway driving and 20.37 kpl for city driving. Meanwhile, the Brio 1.3 V Navi AT recorded 31.92 kpl and 18.27 kpl for highway and city driving, respectively. Their compact size and powerful engines provide passengers of the Brio and Brio Amaze comfortable mobility in various driving situations – highway or city – with exceptional fuel economy.
The City 1.5 E CVT on the other hand, achieved 31.03 kpl for highway and 20.99 kpl for city driving. The City used in the event is equipped with a 1.5 liter i-VTEC engine with CVT that delivers smooth and seamless acceleration to achieve noteworthy fuel economy. The CVT was developed under Honda’s revolutionary Earth Dreams Technology (EDT).
EDT is a next generation set of technological advancements that enhances the engine to greatly improve both fuel efficiency and driving performance. The Mobilio, Jazz, HR-V and Odyssey are also equipped with EDT’s CVT. Furthermore, the Odyssey is the first Honda vehicle locally available to also have EDT 2.4 liter i-VTEC engine. The Odyssey ended the fuel economy run with 23.48 kpl (highway) and 17.74 kpl (city) fuel efficiency figures.
