ILOILO CITY: A foreign journalist based in Hong Kong and writes for Time Out Hong Kong magazine, is all praises for this southern city and calls it one of the prettiest cities in the Philippines. Calling himself a Hong Konger, Matt Fleming “goes hopping mad in Iloilo City” to see, observe and enjoy the many wonders of the city of the Ilonggos and admitted hitting dirt cheap in food, fun and finery in the city. In a Time Out Hong Kong issue early this year, Fleming said the newly opened direct international flights to Hong Kong and back has “opened up the heart of the Philippines to the Hong Kongers and created a clear route up to the beaches of Boracay. It also allowed this beautiful island region to be explored within minutes to the airport.” Fleming raved about the Ilonggos being proud of their rich history and colorful culture, the heritage houses and buildings and the rich history of textile and weaving right here in Iloilo City. The Arevalo Handwoven Products boasts of woven gorgeous silken products kept alive through the centuries.
