Host University of the Philippines (UP) battles University of the East (UE) and University of Santo Tomas (UST) meets Adamson University on the opening day of University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) men’s basketball Season 78 on September 5 at the Araneta Coliseum.

The UAAP board approved the new schedule on Monday.

Defending champion National University will go up against De La Salle University on September 6 at 2 p.m. at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City to be followed by the Far Eastern University-Ateneo de Manila University match at 4 p.m.

The highly-anticipated La Salle-Ateneo game will be on October 4 at the Mall of Asia Arena at 4 p.m.. During that day, first game between UP and Adamson will be held at 11:00 a.m.

Meanwhile, La Salle’s Cameroo¬nian Ben Mbala and Ateneo’s new recruit Hubert Cani won’t see action in this year’s season.

The former Southwestern University standout Mbala had violated a residency ruling, according to the board’s decision, after playing in an unsanctioned league in General Santos in March.

Cani, on the other hand, needs to complete a two-year residency for Ateneo in order to play. Cani is a high school transferee from NU.
