A down-the-wire battle is expected at 7 p.m. today when defending champion Purefoods Star Hotshots face Talk ‘N Text to break 1-1 tie in the best-of-five semifinals of the 40th Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Tropang Texters crushed the Hotshots, 93-77, on Monday to avenge a 94-100 loss in the opening game on April 1.
The winner in the Purefoods-Talk ‘N Text semifinals battle will face the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the best-of-seven Finals. The Elasto Painters earlier swept Meralco Bolts, 3-0, to enter the finals.
Talk ‘N Text coach Jong Uichico sees a fair chance in their quest to return to the Commissioner’s Cup Finals, which they’ve won for the last time in 2011 with their then head coach Chot Reyes.
“Kung natalo kami sa Game 2, it’s hard to be 0-2 down. But we won. This win gives us a fair chance to make the finals,” said Uichico.
Meanwhile, Marc Pingris hopes a big game for the Hotshots as he appealed to the referees for a more efficient officiating of the game.
“Gusto rin namin na makontrol din minsan ng mga referee. Sana Makita ‘yung mga small things, ‘yung mga second motion, kasi dun nagsisimula ‘yung away,” said Pingris, who got involved in an altercation with Talk ‘N Text import Ivan Johnson after the second game.
“First pa lang binatukan ako, tapos si James [Yap] parang tinamaan niya rin,” he said. “Kailangan makontrol niya ‘yung sarili niya dahil iba ‘yung ugali eh.”
