The 16th Congress is holding its last session day today (June 6) in the afternoon.
According to House Majority Leader Neptali Gonzales 2nd, a short program will be held for graduating lawmakers.
“There will be a short program. I understand the Secretary General’s office has prepared a brief program for the graduating lawmakers, including the giving of awards or certificates,” Gonzales, who is Mandaluyong’s congressional representative, said.
Resolutions lauding House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. are expected to be passed.
“House Minority Leader [Ronaldo] Zamora will run the session and pass resolutions to cite and honor Belmonte for his exemplary leadership in steering the House of Representatives to unprecedented heights and great achievements,” Gonzales said.
The 17th Congress begins on June 30, when President-elect Rodrigo Duterte also takes his oath of office.
Duterte has handpicked newly-elected Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez of Davao del Norte as the next House Speaker.
