Rep. Raymond Democrito Mendoza of the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) party-list took his oath as the 289th member of the House of Representatives on Wednesday.
Mendoza, who won his third-term as lawmaker, took his oath before Speaker Feliciano Belmonte, Jr. of Quezon City. The TUCP, founded in 2004 and has 400,000 members, represents the interest of laborers and workers in the House of Representatives.
“Congratulations and welcome back,” Belmonte told Mendoza after the oathtaking.
The victory was a respite for Mendoza, considering that he had a TUCP leadership squabble with former TUCP Secretary General and former senator Ernesto Herrera.
The TUCP, however, resolved the dispute in March 2012 by voting to expel Herrera from their ranks via a unanimous 24-0 vote of TUCP General Council.
Prior to his ouster from TUCP, the Associated Labor Union (ALU) accused Herrera of collecting P40,000 as compensation as a representative of the said group in the TUCP. LLANESCA T. PANTI
