Still bubbly and seemingly carefree as ever, actress and TV host Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla declares that she is first and foremost a housewife.

“I’m a modern housewife,” she qualified, defining “modern” to be “a wife who thinks and takes care of household chores;” and “a wife who goes outside the home to pursue a career.”

The Mrs. of action star Robin Padilla claimed her proud role in life on March 5 when Procter & Gamble launched her as brand ambassador of its newest home care product, Joy with a Touch of Olay.

As the name of the newest variant of the popular dishwashing liquid suggests, it is indeed infused with the beauty formula of skincare brand Olay to soften women’s hands after the most common household chore.

Held at the Blue Leaf in Taguig City, the event dubbed “Tough Love” was also held in celebration of International Women’s Month, with the message that modern wives should be empowered even in taking care of the home.

“This event is really perfect for the International Women’s Month,” Mariel affirmed in an interview with The Manila Times. “I want to be an advocate for women who work hard at home and in their respective careers, so that they deserve to be pampered even in the smallest of ways.”

According to the celebrity, women tend to ignore the fact that household chores like dishwashing, doing the laundry, ironing and cleaning affects their hands, leaving them dry, itchy and uncomfortable. The condition can even worsen in some cases, leaving wounds and abrasions, which according to Mariel, should not be something women have to suffer.

“It’s what I call ‘Tough Love’,” she wailed, as she went on to demonstrate “tough household” situations such as peeling and chopping vegetables, squeezing lemons, opening cans and bottles, and finally dishwashing.

“But now, with this product innovation, I was able to go through all those kitchen chores with hands that are still soft at the very end,” Mariel chimed.

According to Anna Legarda, P&G Brand Communications leader, “It is very important for women to feel special even through little things, so that we at P&G always strive to take care of them.  Even if it just means adding Vitamin E to our dishwashing liquid to nourish and repair the skin, while cutting grease from plates, pots and pans.”

For Mariel, it is these very small things that make a world of difference to housewives.

To know they are cared for while they take care of the home helps them truly love what they do.
