HPG men seek more time to answer raps

Two members of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) who were accused of killing a motorcylist last month asked the Department of Justice on Tuesday to give them more time to respond to the murder charges filed against them.

PO2 Jonjie Manon-og and PO3 Jeremiah de Villa asked for 15 days to submit their response to the charges of murder, torture, robbery and violation of Republic Act 7438 filed by the family of motorcyclist John de la Riarte.

However, Assistant State Prosecutor George Yarte Jr. gave them 10 days or until the next hearing on August 26 to submit their counter affidavits.

Yesterday, the police officers met the family of de la Riarte.

The medico legal team of the National Bureau of Investigation presented the victim’s clothes to prove that he was shot at close range.

De la Riarte was arrested and handcuffed by the suspects after he accidentally bumped the car driven by Eric Fajardo in Makati City.

HPG claimed that de la Riarte resisted arrest.
