• Huey, Inglot eye semis berth in Melbourne

Filipino Treat Conrad Huey and British Dominic Inglot will be gunning for a semifinal seat when they face the unheralded pair of American Eric Butora and South African Raven Klaasen today in the 2014 Australian Open men’s doubles in Melbourne.

Huey and Inglot shocked No. 7 Rohan Bopanna of India and Aisam Ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan, 6-4, 7-6 (1), while Butorac and Klaasen are coming of a 7-6 (9), 6-4 upset win over No. 1 Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan of US in their respective third-round matches.

Playing in the other upper half quarterfinal pairing are Americans Alex Bolt and Andrew Whittington against No. 8 Daniel Nestor of Canada and Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia.

Earlier, Huey and Inglot survived Colombians Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah in the first round, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, and Italians Andreas Seppi and Potito Starace in the second round, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-1.

It’s their second quarterfinal stint in a Grand Slam event after reaching the same stage in the US Open last year.
