Filipino-American Treat Huey and his new partner have been drawn against seeded foes in the opening round of the prestigious Wimbledon Championship men’s doubles being held at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London.
This time, Huey will be playing side by side with Israeli Jonathan Erlich.
They are scheduled to meet sixth seeds Ivan Dodig of Croatia and Marcel Granollers of Spain.
The 31-yer-old Huey is looking to match or even surpass his semifinals finish in last year’s edition when he was playing with Belarusian Max Mirnyi.
Huey and Mirnyi scored four straight victories but bowed to Grand Slam winners Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut of France via a thrilling 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3), 4-6, 4-6 decision.
It was a slow season for Huey this year.
In Australian Open, Huey and Mirnyi were booted out in the second round, succumbing to Australians Sam Groth and Chris Guccione, 6-7 (10), 6-7 (5).
Huey then played with Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan in the French Open but also bombed out of contention in the second round against Rohan Bopanna of India and Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay, 7-5, 6-7 (4), 4-6.
Meanwhile, Dave Sebastian secured a spot in the main draw of the 2017 Hong Kong ITF Men’s Futures being held at the Victoria Park Tennis Stadium in Hong Kong.
Mosqueda defeated Wang Ruixuan of China, 7-5, 6-2, in the qualifying round.
He will be meeting sixth seed Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul of Thailand in the opening round.
Another Filipino bet Jeson Patrombon opted to withdraw in the tournament after suffering an injury. He was slated to play Ryota Tanuma of Japan in the first round. But Patrombon decided to rest and give the Japanese bet an easy passage to the second round.
