Filipino Treat Conrad Huey and Belarusian Max Mirnyi easily cruised to the second round of the ATP World Tour Masters – Internationali BNL D’Italia being held in Rome, Italy.
Huey and Mirnyi were leading 6-3, 1-1 when Kevin Anderson of South Africa and Jeremy Chardy of France opted to retire in the opening round of the clay tournament.
The unseeded pair of Huey and Mirnyi will be meeting the No. 8 duo of Canadian Vasek Pospisil and American Jack Sock, which earned a first-round bye.
For reaching the second round, they are now assured of 14,470 Euros and 90 ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) ranking points.
Huey and Mirnyi, however, are in possible quarterfinal meeting with many-time Grand Slam doubles champions and third seeds Jean-Julien Rojer of the Netherlands and Horia Tecau of Romania.
Rojer and Recau, also an opening-round bye holders, will battle Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay and Marcel Granollers of Spain in the other second-round match. Cuevas and Granollers defeated Colombians Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah in the first round.
A whopping 222,150 Euros await the champions while the runners-up stand to receive 108,750 Euros, and the semifinalists will get 54,550 Euros each pair.
Huey and Mirnyi topped the ATP World Tour Acapulco in Mexico in February.
