Filipino Treat Huey and Belarusian Max Mirnyi ousted Brazilian Marcelo Demoliner and Pakistani Aisam Qureshi, 6-4, 6-7 (7), 6-3, to reach the third round of the prestigious Wimbledon Championship being held at the All England Lawn Tennis Croquet Club in London.
Huey and Mirnyi fired a total of 106 points in the two-hour game including 11 winners and four aces.
Demoliner and Qureshi were actually ahead in statistics with nine aces and 15 winners but were marred by nine unforced errors and five double faults mostly in the crucial third set.
The 12th-seeded Huey and Mirnyi will be playing Oliver Marach of Austria and Fabrice Martin of France in the next round.
Marach and Martin are coming off a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 come-from-behind win over wildcards Ken Skupski and Neal Skupski of Great Britain.
In mixed doubles, Huey and new partner Alicja Rosolska of Poland also cruised into the second round following their 6-0, 7-6 (1) demolition of Demoliner and Nicole Melichar of US in the opening round.
Huey and Rosolska are up for a big challenge in the next phase as they go up against No. 13 Rohan Bopanna of India and Anastasia Rodionova of Australia, who earned a first-round bye.
Meanwhile, junior netters Khim Iglupas copped the singles runner-up honors in the 2016 International Tennis Federation (ITF) LTAT Junior Grade 4 Week 2 held at the National Tennis Development Center in Bangkok, Thailand.
Iglupas lost to Thasaporn Naklo of Thailand in the girls’ singles finals, 3-6, 5-7.
