Huey, partner finish 2nd in Winston-Salem Open doubles


Filipino-American Treat Conrad Huey and British partner Dominic Inglot finished second in the 2013 Winston-Salem Open doubles event held in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

The unseeded Huey and Inglot lost to the No. 1 pair of Daniel Nestor of Canada and Leander Paes of India in the championship round of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Tour event.

Huey and Inglot made it to the finals by thumping Andre Begermann and Martin Emmrich of Germany in the semifinals, 4-6, 6-3, 10-5, while Nestor and Paes ousted Eric Butoran of US and Frederik Nielsen of Denmark, 6-3, 6-3, in the other semifinals match.

Earlier, Huey and Inglot beat Slovak Republic’s Martin Klizan and Michal Mertinak in the first round, 2-6, 6-3, 10-8, and Frantisek Cermak of Czech Republic and Filip Polasek of Slovak Republic in the quarterfinals, 6-1, 7-6 (5).

Nonetheless, Huey and Inglot pocketed a $16,590 consolation purse and 150 ATP ranking points.

It was the third runner-up finish of Huey this season. Huey and Inglot placed second in the Power Horse Cup in Dusseldorf, Germany. He also connived with Jerzy Janowicz of Poland in another runner-up exploits in the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Indian Wells in US.

The veteran tandem of Huey and Inglot will be seeing action next in the prestigious US Open beginning on Wednesday in New York.
