Filipino-American Treat Huey and Dominic Inglot of Great Britain take center stage today in the prestigious 2013 US Open men’s doubles being held in Flushing Meadows, New York.
The 16th seed tandem of Huey and Inglot will be facing Austrians Julian Knowle and Jurgen Melzer in the first round of the Grand Slam event.
Huey and Inglot are looking to surpass their third-round exploits in the 2011 edition of the tournament.
They are coming off a runner-up finish in the Winston-Salem Open—an Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Tour event—held in North Carolina.
Besides the men’s doubles, Huey will be seeing action in the mixed doubles category with American partner Raquel Kops-Jones. Huey and Kops-Jones are set to face the American pair of Victoria Duval and Donald Young.
This year, Huey has three runner-up trophies in a World Tour event. He connived with Inglot in the Power Horse Cup in Dusseldorf, Germany then partnered with Jerzy Janowicz of Poland in the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Indian Wells in US.
The 27-year-old Huey will be back in Manila in September to lead the national team in the Asia-Oceania Davis Cup Group II tie against New Zealand. The tie is scheduled on September 13 to 15 in Cebu City.
