Filipino Treat Huey and Belarusian Max Mirnyi will open their bid against Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in the prestigious Wimbledon Championship at the All England Lawn Tennis Croquet Club in London.
Huey and Mirnyi are seeded 12th in the tournament.
They aim to surpass their quarterfinal finish in the Australian Open in January and third-round appearance in the French Open in May.
Prior to Wimbledon, Huey and Mirnyi reach the quarterfinals of the 2016 Aegon Open Nottingham also in London.
Meanwhile, junior campaigners John Bryan Otico and Khim Iglupas settled for runner-up honors in the 2016 International Tennis Federation LTAT Junior Grade 4 tournament held at the National Tennis Development Center in Bangkok, Thailand.
Otico lost to top seed Shinji Hazawa of Japan in the boys’ singles finals, 3-6, 1-6, while Iglupas bowed to second pick Thasaporn Naklo of Thailand in the girls’ singles gold-medal match, 4-6, 3-6.
Going into the finals, Otico defeated Pawin Jirapoomdaje of Thailand in the second round, 6-4, 6-1; 10th seed Hikaru Shiraishi of Japan in the third round, 6-2, 6-1; second seed Vorachon Rakpuangchon of Thailand in the quarterfinals, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2; and Akanit Pumjit of Thailand in the semifinals, 7-5, 6-4.
For her part, Iglupas ousted Thai bets Jaipet Anontaweesil in the second round, 6-2 6-3; Pat Vasuratna in the third round, 6-3, 6-2; Supapitch Kuearum in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 6-2; and Sawangkaew Mananchaya in the semifinals, 6-0, 6-3.
Otico and Iglupas will resume their ITF campaign in Week 2 of the 2016 International Tennis Federation LTAT Junior Grade 4 tournament to be held at the same venue.
