HYUNDAI Asia Resources Inc. (HARI), distributor of the brand in the Philippines, announced that the Hyundai Accent 1.4L M/T now has a new engine and transmission that promise smoother acceleration and enhanced fuel economy.
HARI said that the Accent’s 1.4-liter Gamma engine is now fitted with dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) instead of the previous version’s single CVVT. The new setup bumps the engine up to 99 horsepower at 6,000rpm and 133 Newton-meter of torque at 4,000rpm, improving the car’s overtaking performance, HARI said.
It explained that dual CVVT controls the engine’s intake valves to give the right amount of air and fuel mixture for optimum combustion, as well as manages the exhaust valves to efficiently expel the combusted gas. This leads to efficient performance and greater fuel economy.
The new engine can now also be mated to a new six-speed manual transmission, which replaces the previous Accent’s five-speed gearbox. HARI said the extra gear offers better fuel-saving flexibility.
