PHILIPPINE distributor Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (Hari) and Lateral Drift Productions Inc. have announced the opening of the 2014 Hyundai Lateral Drift Pro-Am Championship Series. The two companies said they are celebrating the second year of their “high-energy partnership to drive greater awareness and create a bigger fanbase for drifting in the country.”
Hari said that motor sports fans can see six rounds of sideways drift action, which started with a night event on May 31 at a Quezon City venue, and will run until November 22. The races feature the official drift car, the Hyundai Genesis Coupe.
Japanese drifters Hiromi Kajikuma and Kimihiro Obata also returned as judges while star drifter Gio Rodriguez started to defend his title as the 2013 Pro Division champion.
“We anticipate the Hyundai Lateral Drift Pro-Am Championship to once again stir up the local motor sports scene and expand the fanbase,” said Hari President and Chief Executive Officer Fe Perez-Agudo. “Hyundai continues to support the series. First, because we believe that it is an ideal venue to showcase the Modern Premium features of our Genesis Coupe and, second, because we aspire to develop world-class Filipino drifters who can conquer motor sports in the global arena.”
