Arnis Philippines is keeping its thrust in promoting the national martial art and sport as it holds the first iArnis World Encounter starting Monday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
The series of events will begin with an iArnis World Congress on Monday and will be followed by an arnis tournament from July 26 to 28 at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall.
“We will validate new provisions for arnis and discuss other projects that are given to respective countries as part of their national sports program,” said Raymond Velayo, president of Arnis Philippines, in an interview on Saturday.
Part of the one-day congress’ agenda are the appointment of interim offices, induction of the newly appointed offices, adoption to the International Rules and Regulations of i-Arnis, and the president’s report on “i-Arnis and Beyond”.
Meanwhile, competitors from 15 countries including Jordan, India, Turkey, Malaysia, Korea, Canada, and California are expected to join the three-day arnis competition in Pasay City.
According to Velayo, the world’s best arnis practitioners will see action in the competition.
“This is the first time that we will gather all the arnis systems in the country and some parts of the world to showcase their skills and talent. We want to promote the sport that’s why we are doing this,” said Velayo.
Also, participants will be treated to a city tour followed by a fellowship dinner on July 29.
Velayo added that the weeklong event would provide a unique experience for arnisadors to come together and compete in a friendly atmosphere, establish new friendships and experience the arnis spirit in its homeland.
The international tournament is in cooperation with the Rotary Club New Manila, Quezon City.
