International Container Terminal Services Inc.’s (ICTSI) one-stop inland container terminal in Laguna will start operations on March 2, the company announced Wednesday.
Laguna Gateway Inland Container Terminal Inc. (LGICT) will operate the facility located in Barangays Banlic and San Cristobal, Calamba City, Laguna.
“Primarily, the ICT (inland container terminal) will operate as an extension of the seaport operations of the Manila International Container Terminal (MICT),” ICTSI said.
ICTSI through its subsidiary IW Cargo Handlers Inc. forged a joint venture with Nippon Container Terminals Co. Ltd., Transnational Diversified Corporation, and NYK-Fil-Japan Shipping Corp. to form LGICT.
The company said the ICT is intended to function as a regional logistics hub to service and support the operations of exporters and importers, both within and outside the economic zones in the Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon area.
Only 58 kilometers from Metro Manila, the ICT will be situated on a 21-hectare property, strategically located near various economic export zones and with access to an already existing adjacent railroad line. Of the 21 hectares, four hectares have already been developed and are available for immediate operations, the company said.
Envisioned to be the first of its kind in magnitude and operations, the ICT will be developed as a 24/7 state-of-the-art facility with cutting edge terminal systems and equipment.
