Elmer Salvador, Angelo Que and Tony Lascuna, who figured in the title chase in the recent two Asian Development Tour legs, brace for another showdown as they head the stellar cast in the P1 million ICTSI Tagaytay Midlands Challenge unfolding Wednesday (Aug. 14) at Tagaytay Midlands.

Salvador humbled Que to retain the Aboitiz Invitational in Cebu last month while Lascuna finished behind Thai Sattaya Supupramai at ICTSI Classic at Mt. Malarayat last week with the troika tipped to slug it out again in the upcoming event serving as the 10th leg of the ICTSI Philippine Golf Tour.

Unlike in the 72-hole ADT tournaments, however, the battle at Midlands will be held through 54 holes, thus putting premium on a hot start on a wind-raked, up-and-down course hosting a PGT leg for the first time.

“This will be interesting. No one has the so-called home-court advantage at Midlands, so good preparation and a winning mindset would be key,” said Lascuna in Filipino.

Lascuna, Que and Salvador are actually in hot pursuit of Miguel Tabuena in the Order of Merit title race with the talented teener leading the veteran troika by a slim margin, guaranteeing a battle royale for the top P200,000 purse put up by International Container Terminal Services, Inc.

Tabuena is also in the cast along with ICTSI John Hay leg winner Jay Bayron, Carl-Santos Ocampo, Jhonnel Ababa, Rancho Palos Verdes champion Michael Bibat, Mars Pucay, Gerald Rosales, Cassius Casas, Rufino Bayron, Jerson Balasabas, Jun Bernis, Marvin Dumandan, Anthony Fernando, Zanie Boy Gialon and Charles Hong.

The leading pros will test the par-72 layout in Tuesday’s pro-am where they will be paired with officials and guests of the event’s chief backers, including Nike Golf, Srixon, Custom Clubmakers, Pacsports, Cleveland Golf, Callaway, Ping, Mizuno, Empire Golf and Sports Shop, FootJoy, Titleist, Sharp and BMW.

From Midlands, the circuit, organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. goes to Southwoods for the ICTSI Manila Southwoods Challenge on September 4 to7, another four-day tournament offering P2.5 million in total prizes.

Splendido, site of this year’s Qualifying School, will host the 11th leg on October 9 to 11 with Riviera staging another 72-hole championship on October 16 to19 for the ICTSI Riviera Classic.

Canlubang will host the penultimate leg on Nov. 6-8 for the ICTSI Canlubang Golf Invitational before the circuit winds up again at Wack Wack for the ICTSI Wack Wack Championship, also a four-day championship.
