The explosion occurred at a plaza and destroyed at least three motorcycles parked in the area. No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the blast, but police were investigating this.
The blast occurred a day after policemen clashed with jihadists allied with Abu Sayyaf and Jemaah Islamiah in nearby Maasim town in Sarangani province.
Two gunmen had been killed in the fighting in Daliao village and the police recovered three automatic rifles, including a .50-caliber Barrett and improvised explosives and a Daesh or ISIS flag in the area.
The target of the operation was Mohammad Maguid, who is facing a string of criminal charges, but he managed to escape the raiders.
