ZAMBOANGA CITY: Suspected Abu Sayyaf rebels rigged a military detachment in Patikul town, Sulu with improvised explosive, a day after they bombed a convoy of soldiers in a village there. The explosive device – assembled from mortar bombs – was discovered in Barangay Bonbon but was immediately disarmed by soldiers. On Thursday, the rebels detonated a roadside bomb while a convoy of military trucks by Marine Battalion Landing Team 10 were passing and wounded seven soldiers. Thousands of troops were deployed in Sulu ahead of the May elections. Mayor Khabir Hayudini cannot be reached for comment on the spate of violent attacks in Patikul.
